Regular Sunday Worship
The 11.00am service in St Columba`s is a “middle of the road” blend of traditional and modern. The first twenty minutes are geared to the children and young people. This is often participative with music led by organ, piano or guitar. After the children and young people go out to Sunday School and Bible Class, the Choir sing an anthem, one of our team of readers reads the Bible, and the sermon invites us to explore how the Bible passage relates to life today. Prayers for others usually relate to current events in the world, for those who are ill, those who are bereaved, and there is space and silence for our own prayers and reflections. Tea and coffee are served after this service. This service feels anchored in the Church of Scotland tradition and pattern, but within that, is able to explore and connect with the issues and challenges of everyday life in our complex and fast moving world.
The summer programme from mid June to mid August is a bit different.
The 9.30am service lasts about 35 – 40 minutes. This has an informal feel to it, greater participation and more modern hymns/songs. If you want a relaxed approach and an early finish on a summer Sunday morning this might be the one for you.
The 11.00am service in the summer balances the 9.30am by going in the opposite direction – more traditional. If you want the chance to sing some of the older hymns that are not sung so often these days, this might be what you are looking for.
